The C-class from Mercedes has never failed to impress the masses. The compact sedan segment is considered to be the most stylish line of vehicles in Mercedes inventory and buyers don’t need to get a driver for it.
The latest C-Class has raised the bar yet again as it looks to force BMW 3-Series and Audi A4 to play catch-up. The latest C-Class consist of the C 200, C 250 (both petrol) and C 250 BlueTEC diesel plus C 300 BlueTEC diesel-hybrid.
This set of cars are considered to be a big jump from its predecessors as they are all equipped with premium features like Driver Assistant Plus, leather upholstery, 19-inch alloy wheels, dark tinted privacy glass aft of the B-pillar, keyless entry, automatic boot closing and a 50-litre fuel tank for the hybrid model.
The entry level C200 retails at $60,900 while the high-end C300 BlueTEC Hybrids cost $74,900. In detail, the C200 runs on the turbocharged 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine. The C250 BlueTEC ups the scale with the twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel that is also shared with the C 300 BlueTEC Hybrid. The engines are mated to a 7G Tronic PLUS seven-speed automatic transmission.
The mill on the C200 is able to produce 35kW of power at 5500rpm and peak torque of 300Nm from 1200-4000rpm. As for the C250, the power stands at 155kW/350Nm. As for the C250 BlueTEC and the C300 BlueTEC, they can produce 150kW at 3800rpm and peak torque of 500Nm from 1600-1800rpm.
The C-Class is truly a fashion statement as it mixes class and sportiness that will appeal to many young drivers out there. Gone are the days where Mercedes are regarded as an old-man car. Even on performance, the C-Class performs exceptionally well with its direct-steer system. Every bend is handled with precision and grip like no other.
In short, the C-Class carries no flaws in its production. The cars excel in quality, comfort, performance and efficiency. The 3-Series from BMW and the A4 from Audi should start taking notes if they wish to keep up with their rival.
