When it comes to picking the best compact SUV in the market today, we will always get stuck between the Subaru XV Crosstrek and the Mazda CX-5. Today, we shall bury this issue once and for all.
Both the CX-5 and the Crosstrek can accommodate 5-heads in the vehicle. The former runs on the FWD 155hp 2L 4-Cylinder engine whereas the latter runs on the AWD 148hp 2L Flat-4 engine. TheCX-5 is operated through a 6-speed manual transmission while the Crosstrek has a 5-speed manual transmission.
In terms of efficiency, the CX-5 is truly wonderful as it achieves 26mppg on city roads and 35mpg on highways. The Crosstrek fell short at 23mpg on city roads and 30mpg on highways.
It is also more comfortable on the CX-5 as the car comes with many extras like rear ventilation ducks and more space for the passengers. Cargo space on the CX-5 measures at 34.1 cubic-feet while the Crosstrek is much smaller at 22.3 cubic-feet. Then again, the overall differences between space and comfort are not that drastic.
Technically speaking, the CX-5 is the better of the two. It is still not all-wrong for the Crosstrek as it is only a level behind its rival. The fact that the latter is an AWD makes it more practical when going off-road, something the CX-5 cannot achieve.
