A couple of months ago, Mazda launched the all-new Mazda 3. However, sales of the compact sedan has been below par ever since. This is due to the high price tag on the Mazda 3, which has been scaring away many potential buyers.
On the other hand, Mazda claims that the 3 is appropriately priced as it comes with the SkyActiv technology which is something revolutionary. We find it hard to dispute with this fact. When we got behind the wheels of the Mazda 3, the compact sedan performs exceptionally well as it takes on the swerving roads with ease.
Also, the SkyActiv system ensured that the car optimizes every drop of petrol. In short, the Mazda 3 is super fuel efficient that it is probably the best in its segment.
On the downside of things, comfort was absent throughout our testing of the car. Even at an average speed of 60km/h, the Mazda 3 produces so much tyre noise and wind noise. The car is poorly insulated.
In terms of engine performance, the Mazda 3’s SkyActiv technology focused too much on saving fuel that it makes the car feel underpowered. Drivers will need to do high revs just to pull out the shy ponies.
All in all, we feel that Mazda is wrong in the pricing segment. For that price, one can get better cars from a different segment.
