What will you get with the latest Mazda 3? It runs on a 2.2L 4-cylinder diesel engine with SkyActiv technology that produces 148hp and 280ft-lbs of torque on FWD architecture. The compact sedan also returns 72.4mpg while also coming with a top speed of 132mph.
The above might be the statistics and figures shown on the Mazda 3’s brochure but unlike other car brochures, Mazda didn’t exaggerate one bit. We actually tested the Mazda 3 and confirmed that it is like how it was described.
The engine is astonishingly superb as it is able to sprint from 0-62mph in 8 seconds flat. The fact that the Mazda 3 weighs at just 1383kg further ensures that we achieve better fuel mileage and more power. This is Mazda’s all-new Kodo design language, which is aimed to make vehicles focused on optimizing every drop of fuel.
On the downside of things, all of these come with a hefty price of £22,145. For a C-segment vehicle, this is the most expensive car in the market. For us, it is difficult to accept as we are brainwashed by this idea where Japanese cars are always the cheaper alternatives to European cars.
However, the Mazda 3 shattered our glass once and for all as it delivers a sublime performance that is comparable, if not, better than the Ford Focus or the Volkswagen Golf. In fact, it is far larger than its rivals, which also make it the perfect family, or, executive car.
With that being said, we feel that the £22,145 price tag on the Mazda 3 is worth the splurge. It might be obviously overpriced but for a car that is truly remarkable, every penny will be worth it.
