Maserati might not be the biggest name in the automotive industry but it can be classified as the most exotic of them all. I mean, who wouldn’t love to have a large trident attached at the front of their car? It simply gives off the impression of aggression and power like no other.
The latest Maserati Ghibli is a perfect example of Maserati’s perfection and there is simply no disputing that fact. Just from its looks, the Ghibli comes with headlamps that are so angry and vicious. Then, there is that hallmark Maserati grille with the Trident embedded on it.
The Italian carmaker is also spotted to have jumped into the diesel trend with the Ghibli. The sports sedan comes in three variants and they are the Ghibli Diesel, Ghibli or Ghibli S. The latter comes with the highest specs and it retails at $169,900.
In detail, the Ghibli and the S variant is powered by a twin-turbo V6 petrol engines but differs in output. Manufactured by Ferrari, the engine delivers 243kW/500Nm for the Ghibli and 301kW/550Nm for the Ghibli S. As for the Ghibli diesel, the mill is identified as the single turbocharged V6 diesel that offers 202kW/600Nm. All three variants run on the RWD system via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Inside the Ghibli, everything is kept luxurious. They say that Italian carmakers are the most passionate of them all and the interior proves that statement. It seems that every stitch in the car is of the highest quality and for the first time ever, Maserati does not rely on the messy buttons layout. Instead everything is controlled on the touch screen.
When driving on sports mode, the 8-step transmission is best controlled manually. Upon doing so, users will get control of the raw power that the Ghibli has to offer. Unlike the German super cars, the Ghibli does not offer plenty of electronics to guide the driver when speeding. In short the Ghibli is for the pro.
Then again, there is a flaw with the Ghibli. When transmitting on the pedal shifters, there is a slight delay in its response. Also, there is some difficulties when trying to go into Park or Reverse.
