Jeep had just taken a step into the realm of compact crossover by unleashing the Renegade. This upcoming vehicle is built to be more user-friendly, while at the same time, offer drivers the ultimate Jeep experience.
At a glance, the Renegade has that typical look from Jeep. The round headlamps sit at the side of the large vertical grilles and the lower bumpers are big and black in colour. The sole design of the Renegade simply gives off the confidence aura.
Under the hood, the Renegade has so much versatility that customers can tailor the powertrains to their need. In total, there are 16 different powertrains, 3 different 4WD system and 3 different transmissions to choose from.
When we tested the vehicle, we got the 2L 4-Cylinder turbodiesel engine which offers 138bhp. The motor is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission that powers on the front-wheel drive system. We also manage to accelerate from 0-62mpg in just 10.2s, while also reaching the top speed of 110mph.
The best thing about the Renegade is how it is treated to be more eco-friendly. Despite the large engine capacity, the SUV managed to return 50.4mpg with emissions at 120g/km. This is something really impressive, yet rare from Jeep.
The Renegade is still yet to be mass produced for the global market but that will look to happen in Q4 this year. When it gets released, the Renegade is going to be in direct competition with the Skoda Yeti and the segment-dominator, Nissan Qashqai.
The special thing about the Renegade is its off-road features. The SUV comes with all the gizmos from Jeep to offer the ultimate off-road experience, even when it is a compact crossover.
Then again, we feel that this will be Jeep’s downfall. Not many are fans of off-roading and to realize that the Renegade doesn’t offer anything special on normal roads put it at risk of being a failure.
