Jeep has finally stepped into the realm of compact crossovers after releasing the all—new Renegade. The mini-SUV sports many of Jeep hallmark design and features as it looks to compete with the market dominator, Nissan Juke.
Unlike the latter, the Renegade comes with an AWD system that is complimented by Jeep’s illustrious off-road features. Among them are better ground clearance, wading depth and many more. Unfortunately, off-roading is not for everyone which raised many eyebrows on the Renegade’s purpose.
On the other hand, there are 16 different Renegade variants and some of them are built on the FWD system. This should appeal to the more general market. Regardless of what consumers choose, they will get a study-looking vehicle with soldier-liked front grille and old-school round headlamps that gets a modern touch.
Inside the vehicle, Jeep adopted a more clean-cut design. There is a 6.5” panel embedded on the centre console and resting below it are the familiar basic switches. The design is well-done by Jeep and we really liked it. However, the choice of hard plastics can be a major turnoff. After all, it pains to spin an unresponsive steering that is doesn’t feel nice to grip at all.
If you are planning to get the Jeep Renegade, we recommend getting it with the 2L MultiJet engine that offers 138hp. The turbocharged diesel mill is paired to a 6-speed manual transmission which puts the vehicle’s power on your hands.
Then again, we don’t actually recommend getting the Renegade at all. It never as good as the Nissan Juke and it lacks the handling to be an all-rounder. The only good thing about the Renegade is its off-road capabilities.
