When Verizon and Motorola announced the DROID RAZR, one of its key marketing points was that it was the thinnest smartphone in the world. This of course played well with its ‘RAZR’ branding too. So it came as somewhat of a surprise that only a month after the DROID RAZR was released, did details of a thicker DROID RAZR smartphone begin to surface.
Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX an accident
So what made Motorola consider developing the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX? According ot Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha, it was an accident. A Motorola engineer was toying with the idea of packing a larger 3,300mAh battery inside the RAZR instead of the current 1,750mAh. This made the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX a little thicker than the original but Sanjay Jha found its more rounded back easier to hold.
In fact, Jha was so taken by the this smartphone that he proposed it to Verizon. True enough, Verizon too believed that there was such a thing as “too thin” after all.
So despite its thicker outward jutting rear, the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX feels a lot better to hold and boasts a full day (and night) of usage thanks to its bigger capacity battery.
