While HTC seemed to have given up on flooding the market with cheap handsets, they could be getting ready to release a range of Desire budget friendly handset. The codename is the HTC Proto and it will join alongside the Desire C which previously had the name of the HTC Golf.
HTC Proto Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone revealed
While the handset may be very small, it is perfectly formed and does feature some great specs while at the same time being affordable. It seems that with the Desire range they are trying to keep the cost of the handsets down without releasing budget spec-like phones.
A source at HTC who wanted to remain anonymous said that the Desire handset for 2012 had the codename of the HTC Proto and it would come with a dual core 1GHz processor and 768 MB of RAM. It will also have 4GB of usable memory and a 4 inch LCD screen that will improve on the 3.5 inch screen of the Desire C. The resolution is also increased to 480 x 800.
The device will have Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and have the Sense 4.0 overlay which looks great on the One X and One S. It will weigh in at 114g, so it will make the Nokia Lumia 610 and LG Optimus L7 feel heavy. It is thought that it will have a 1650mAh battery, have support for SD card and microSim card.
