The iPhone 5 will purportedly roll out this fall followed closely by the Motorola Droid RAZR HD. While there is nothing confirmed about either one of these devices other than the fact that we will see both of them sometime this year, who doesn’t love a good comparison of much anticipated smartphones based solely on rumors? Don’t answer that and read on as we find out more about which of these unicorns come out on top in our mythical comparison of the iPhone 5 vs Motorola DROID RAZR HD.
Rumors battle: iPhone 5 vs Motorola DROID RAZR HD
Design And Body build: If the leaked pictures are any indication, then the iPhone takes first place. Some might like the unusual diamond design of the RAZR, but you can’t argue that every iPhone just has that effortless classy look that gives it the edge. In terms of body build, the RAZR HD has the carbon fibre material of its predecessor and this nudges it out ahead of of other plastic-like Androids like the Samsung Galaxy S3 but not the iPhone 5.
Processor: f Apple plans to use the previous iPad’s processor in the next iPhone, as usual, then the iPhone 5 will probably have an A5X chip. The Motorola RAZR HD may well feature a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 dual-core chip if a leak from Nenamark is true. This means both smartphones will be among the year’s fastest.
Display: Apple has proven quite definitively that no other manufacturer comes close in terms of screen pixel density. A recent Japanese blog posted a video claiming that the iPhone 5 will have a 4-inch display. Now given that even the huge MacBook Pro has a Retina display, it’s likely that iPhone 5 will have a greater pixel density than the 4S. The RAZR HD has an odd screen resolution of 1196x720p, and some pixels are likely to be dedicated to onscreen buttons. There’s as yet no info on screen size (speculated to be bigger than the iPhone 5 though).
Camera: It’s been ‘confirmed’ that the RAZR HD will have a 13MP camera, which takes it way ahead of the 8MP camera touted for the iPhone 5. There’s a picture leaked on to Picasa, rumoured to be taken by the Droid RAZR HD, that shows greater picture quality than its predecessors and even the iPhone 4S to the naked eye.
Battery: The Motorola RAZR HD is likely to best the iPhone 5 in battery as well, with a 3,300 mAh battery that’s more than twice the iPhone’s 1,430 mAh offering (according to 9to5mac).
Connectivity: Both smartphones will most likely come with the standard connectivity options like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, USB and of course 4G LTE support. What may prove to be a bummer, tough, is schlepping files from your PC to your iPhone 5 via iTunes.
Conclusion: If you’re not all that into Apple and can hang on a few months, then wait for Motorola to show what it has done with the RAZR HD. If you already have an iPhone and love Apple, you’ll prefer the iPhone 5 as this year it appears that all flagship devices are almost neck-to-neck in terms of hardware specifications.
