Facebook has taken on a former user interface design manager from Apple, reports CNET. Chris Weeldreyer is now on the team working as the product manager for the social network platform.
Weeldreyer has been with Apple since 2003 and left this February where he filled the position for design manager at Facebook perfectly. When the job was advertised it said that candidates should have interaction skills along with the ability to be able to shape product strategy and have strong visual skills. It also went on to say that candidates were preferred who could build their own designs.
Weeldreyer has all of these skills and more which are listed on his LinkedIn page. His profile says that he is a user interface designer with experience in user design, mobile applications, mobile application design, and product development and of course product design. So it sounds like Facebook found the perfect candidate to fill the role.
Facebook have in the past come under fire for lacking quality and user friendliness and they have faced challenges in the mobile market. However more and more people are using their mobile apps to update their status and check the status of others. So like everyone else in the world of mobile phone technology it seems they have decided that Facebook needs a facelift if they are to thrive in the mobile world.
Weeldreyer to work on rumored ‘Facebook iPhone 5 clone’?
Coincidentally, Facebook was reportedly in a recruiting spree last month where they supposedly hired 6 ex-Apple engineers. The rumor mill immediately jumped to the conclusion that Facebook was building a phone of their own and it would pretty much be what we expect the iPhone 5 would be. If their latest recruit is for the same purpose, we could see Facebook’s ‘iPhone 5 clone’ not only have great hardware and exterior styling but also feature a visually enticing UI. Alas these are all speculations at this time so let’s not get too excited just yet.
