The Galaxy S3 from Samsung hasn’t seen as much chopping and changing in design over various regions as the S2 did, but the phone is available in different countries and carriers with different components, reports TheVerge.
Korean Samsung Galaxy S3 boasts LTE but gets to keep its quad-core processor
Phones that have support for LTE typically have the Snapdragon S4 dual core processor instead of the Exynos quad core chip and there have also been variations in Japan and Canada with 2GB of RAM. It seems that very soon we may see an LTE model with 2GB of RAM and the quad core processor from Exynos.
In a recent update Samsung have said that the Korean version of the LTE Galaxy S3 will have an Exynos quad core processor with a separate LTE modem chip. This might explain changes to the dimension of the handset. The phone will be 9mm thick and have a 0.4 mm gain on the standard versions. It will come with the same 2,100mAh battery found in other handsets.
Samsung said that the Galaxy S3 would be available in Korea from today with the LTE version coming in July. The models of the phone in Korea also comes with an antenna for DMB TV broadcasts and there is a video hub holding around 500 titles. Voice over LTE support will be available and the three major carriers will roll out the service by the end of this year.
This of course will confuse US buyers of the Samsung Galaxy S3 who would be wondering why their Galaxy S3 variants had to succumb to dual-core processors for LTE’s sake while the Korean version didn’t. So before you go thinking that the US carriers have shortchanged you, it is important to note that the chip used in the Korean Samsung Galaxy S3 supports different LTE bands. Hence this may not be possible here in the US, yet.
