Owners of the Motorola Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX who are on the Verizon network had started receiving text messages telling them that they will soon be getting the update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Motorola DROID RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich build now available to beta testers
While there have been reports that the texts may not have been legitimate, there is good news for subscribers to Verizon. Beta testers are already getting the ICS build 6.16.211 updates. Given that Verizon promised the Motorola DROID RAZR Ice Cream Sandwich update would be available before the end of the month, this is likely the final build.
Generally updates are sent to beta testers to check for last minute bugs and problems, before the update is then rolled out. If the update is to be believed it could see more members of the Feedback Network of Motorola getting it very soon, before general release.
There has never been any specific date set by Motorola for the updates of Android 4.0 for the Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX. The only thing that has been said is that the phones would get the update by the end of Q2, June 30th. This means less than a two week wait right now if they are to stick to the timetable. If you are feeling adventurous you could head over to droidrzr.com and get a copy of the update file. However most of us will just wait and hopefully won’t have to wait too long.
The handsets are very popular and are one of the best-selling with the Maxx being more popular than the iPhone on the sales charts of Verizon last quarter, even without the most recent OS. Ice Cream Sandwich is said to provide an array of features and enhancements which includes multi-tasking and the new lock screen from Motorola.
