The Galaxy S3 has pushed the war between Samsung and Apple up a whole new notch. While the iPhone 4S came out on top over the S2 in popularity and sales, it looks as though things are different with the S3 as the 4S continues to age and lose its charm. Let’s take a look at how the new Samsung Galaxy S3 has overtaken the iPhone 4S by checking out its specs.

The touchscreen of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a stunning 4.8 inch Super AMOLED HD 720×1280 pixels while the screen of the iPhone is Retina Display of 3.5 inches with 960 x 640 pixels resolution. Of course as it has better clarity and larger real estate, the screen of the S3 stands out. The iPhone 4S may be more portable but the S3 still comes out the winner in this aspect.
There is one thing the iPhone 4S does manage to hold on to though – design. The iPhone 4S comes out on top for design and form factor as it has better build quality and aesthetics compared to the plastic-ky Samsung Galaxy S3. However the S3 is longer and wider but thinner and lighter so it does deserves some points.
When it comes down to performance the quad core processor of the S3 comes with 1GB RAM while the iPhone 4S has a A5 dual core with 512 MB RAM. Both of these do a great job however as the S3 blows the Apple phone out of the water in terms of power and speed.
Both of the handsets come with an 8 megapixel camera and the S3 has a 1.3 on the front as opposed to the 0.3 of the iPhone 4S. The Samsung Galaxy S3 has zero shutter lag and its more powerful second camera makes it the winner. A recent teardown of the Samsung Galaxy S3 also revealed that it share the same camera sensor.
Software wise there isno clear winner since both the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S3 are running the latest software updates (iOS 5 and Android 4.0).
Battery life, the Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 2,100mAh battery and the iPhone 4S a 1,420mAh battery. The S3 has a bigger battery and three times the standby time of the iPhone 4S. Winner: Samsung Galaxy S3.
All in all the S3 takes most of the categories which places it as the winner. Therefore at the moment when it comes to the iPhone, the Apple phone doesn’t seem as fresh and crisp as it once was. Of course this is not to say that it will remain so as rumors are floating around that the iPhone 5 is to be released this fall and likely turn the tablet back in Apple’s favor. Until then, the Samsung Galaxy S3 is a better buy.
