In the fight of two of the most popular laptops to ever be built by Apple, the 2012 MacBook Pro 13-inch (non-Retina) and the MacBook Air 13-inch design and specifications were compared by ArsTechnica (AT) to give readers a greater understanding between the differences in the two similar sized laptops. So what was their verdict? Let’s take a look.
13-inch MacBook Pro vs MacBook Air
The Air matched the Pro in many areas; one of these was the display. However if you tend to do a lot of visual work then the resolution of the Air, which is higher, will not make up for the color gamut, which is limited, and so you may be swayed on to the Pro.
When it comes to carrying the device around the MacBook Air is the clear winner thanks to its 1.5 pound weight. A fully maxed out Air 13-inch comes with a very impressive performance/weight ratio which the Pro cannot beat.
On the other hand the Pro came out the clear winner in many other aspects. It took the lead when it comes to performance of the CPU, storage capacity, the amount of ports available, the optical drive and future upgradability and with expandability.
The MacBook Air wins points for portability and those who carry their laptops around a lot believe that this alone is worth the extra cost. Anyone who is constantly on the move will not be bothered about the lack of optical drive, Ethernet or firewire. In short ArsTechnica would recommend the MacBook Air overall but then the MacBook Pro is better value for money.
