There has been a major drop in price of the iPhone 4S over the last few months and this had sparked a rumor that it could mean the iPhone 5 is on its way. Apple failed to deliver any information on the anticipated next generation of the iPhone but the price drop could mean that Apple are hoping to sell as many of the iPhone 4S handsets as possible before they release the newer model.
iPhone 5 may be just around the corner (rumor)
This leaves would be purchasers of the iPhone in a bit of a quandary. Do they go ahead and grab themselves the iPhone 4S for a lower price or should they hang on and go for the latest model, when it is finally unveiled. History suggests that customers loyal to Apple would still buy the iPhone 5 even with prices remaining the same for the iPhone 4S. After all, a lot of people upgraded to the 4S despite it being very similar to the previous model.
It is thought that the iPhone 5 will be redesigned from the ground up. We’re talking about a larger touch screen, quad-core processor, 4G LTE connectivity and aluminum based exterior. Originally, the iPhone 4S price drop was taken as a signal for a WWDC 2012 launch for the iPhone 5. This however didn’t prove to be the case earlier this week when the Apple event kicked off in San Francisco. So what other reason could there be for the iPhone 4S price drop? Read on.
One school of thought is that Apple will announce the iPhone 5 in a special event on its own very shortly, and not wait until this fall. We already saw how the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX beat the iPhone 4S in terms of sales on Verizon earlier this year, so we can expect what kind of damage the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3 will do to the Apple phone. Hence it may not make sense for Apple to wait too long to launch the iPhone 5 and they have now started lowering their iPhone 4 & 4S inventory because of it.
