There have been leaks today from ZueGue of pictures which are allegedly of the upcoming Apple iPad Mini which is expected to sit at 7 inches. There have been rumors that it will be closer to 7.85 inches, but this recent ZooGue report states it will in fact be 7.58 inches. Not only that, but apparently the device will be announced by Apple at WWDC 2012, according to ZooGue’s source, which has already started.
iPad mini pictures purportedly leaked before official WWDC 2012 debut
From the pictures, it also appears that the new iPad Mini has an unusual looking dock connector. Apparently Apple may stop doing their current six-pin connector, though this is all speculation at this point and is looking unlikely at present. We should also look at the source of this particular piece of information, who Is DaringFireball’s John Gruber. Gruber believes that the iPad will be 7.85 inches and that it’s in labs for testing at the moment. It is possible that a range of screen sizes are being tested before they choose a final size.
We are surprised by the comments regarding the potential WWDC launch, as previous reports indicated a launch in autumn 2012 rather than summer, with no mention of WWDC 2012 whatsoever.
Rumours have been flying around that the smaller 7 inch iPad is to act as competitor to the Kindle Fire by Amazon, creating more variety to the Apple line of devices, as their current iPad is 9.7 inches. So far, the only thing we can confirm for WWDC 2012 is that we will get a glimpse of iOS 6. Even the iPhone 5 seems out of the books right now.
While we would like to believe this is the real deal, the Samsung Galaxy S3 style ‘pebble blue’ color used for the rear Apple logo and product name looks out of place.
