The hype behind Samsung Galaxy S3 seems to show no signs of slowing down. Already pegged to be a bigger success than its predecessor, it will soon go head to head with what is without a doubt its biggest rival of 2012 – the Apple iPhone 5.
iPhone 5 vs Samsung Galaxy S3: Why Apple isn’t worried (Forbes)
According to Forbes, Apple has good reasons not to be worried about the Galaxy S3 from Samsung despite its popularity and headstart. Despite the Samsung Galaxy S3 stealing attention away from just about every other smartphone on the market, Forbes believes that Apple has something up their sleeves and know something that we don’t regarding the new iPhone 5. It could be that they are just waiting for Samsung to play their hand before they try and trump it.
Forbes adds that despite the large touchscreen of the Galaxy S3, the handset is lacking design flair. This is strangely merited towards Samsung wanting to ensure that its Galaxy S3 looks nothing like the the upcoming iPhone 5.
While the hardware of the Samsung Galaxy S3 is impressive, there is also nothing remarkable about it as the specifications are in line with those phones already on the market, namely the HTC One X, or nearing (rumors of a Motorola DROID RAZR HD a.k.a Fighter). Apple of course tend not to make a lot of fuss over the specs of their iPhones and it appears Samsung has the same thoughts this time around as they played the “design for humans” angle more than specs at the unveiling.
Next, Forbes suggests that Samsung has a wide range of handsets, whereas Apple just has one, the iPhone. This may dilute Samsung`s power as they spread themselves thinly over designing many devices. Apple on the other hand is able to focus solely on the hardware of their single phone and make it perfect for its operating system i.e. iOS 6.
Finally Apple has another plus point in their favor and that is they have brand loyalty. The iPhone is known around the world. Samsung on the other hand are developing their Galaxy brand name as a premium line. However as we saw with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S3 in India, many consumers were enraged by the high price tag of the S3 (around 750USD) despite it being similar to an iPhone 4S which was acceptable to sit at that price point.
While we don’t agree with all of the points Forbes has mentioned, we can’t deny that the iPhone 5 will most likely beat the Samsung Galaxy S3 in sales, and by a huge margin as well. Whether it will truly be better than the Samsung Galaxy S3 or just match it remains to be seen. If rumors serve true, we may see the iPhone 5 release sometime this fall.
What do you think about the upcoming Samsung vs Apple battle? Will the table’s turn in 2012 or will we see a similar Samsung Galaxy S2 vs iPhone 4S scenario where the 4S remains the hotter of the two? Sound off in the comments below.
