An employee that used to work at Apple has been quoted as saying that the people working at the company are embarrassed by Siri and that the performance of the feature would have caused the late Steve Jobs to have lost his mind, reports AppleInsider (AI).
Siri for iPhone 4S a disappointment, Apple employee states Steve Jobs would have “lost his mind”
Siri is the feature in the iPhone 4S that acts as a a voice assistant and when the iPhone 4S was launched it was in beta. Many users of the iPhone 4S are said to be unsatisfied with the performance of Siri and say it is nothing like the adverts on TV where it performs wonderfully when it is used by actors like Samuel L Jackson, John Malkovich and Zooey Deschanel. In fact, the Siri TV ads have brought upon a number of lawsuits whereby the ad had to clear state in writing that it is all simulated.
Users of the iPhone 4S have used the commands shown in the TV adverts, such as the one by Jackson. Jackson asks Siri for a reminder to put the gazpacho on ice in one hour. While the phone perfectly understands the command from the actor, when users try it at home, the sentence is not understood by the software. More often than not, instead of having a reminder set up the phone attempts to call contacts from the phone.
Interestingly in new adverts advertising this feature of the phone Apple now have actor John Malkovich using just one word requests that are very simple. The ads are somewhat less entertaining but more likely to work when you try it. What’s your experience with Siri on the iPhone 4S? Sound off in the comments below.
