Cricket was one of the first pre-paid carriers to announce the iPhone 4S this year (set for June debut). However they may not be the last if Sprint has anything to do with it. The iPhone 4 along with the iPhone 4S may very well be heading to the pre-paid carrier Boost Mobile this September. The news comes from what has been termed as a reliable source of TechnoBuffalo.
Boost Mobile iPhone 4S coming this September, high price tag may fall with release of iPhone 5 (rumor)
It has been suggested that the 16GB iPhone 4S will sell on Boost for $499.99 and the 8GB iPhone 4 for $399.99. On saying this if Apple announces the release of their iPhone 5 these price tags could drop further and we could even see a Boost Mobile iPhone 5 added to the lineup.
When CNET asked Apple for a comment on whether the news is true, Sprint replied that they would not comment on rumors about their products. It is thought that by spreading into carriers that are not so well known Apple can delve deeper into the market. As each new iPhone is introduced older models will naturally be sold for less and this means there will be more affordable options for pre-paid models for those who do not have to have the latest models. This would means that an iPhone will become affordable to all.
On a side note, T-Mobile which is the fourth largest carrier in the US has yet to offer the iPhone. Rumors have it that it will happen with a T-Mobile iPhone 5 however the pink carrier’s recent stance on the damage that phone subsidies are causing to the mobile wireless industry, may stop it from coming to fruition.
