Cricket Gets Prepaid iPhone 4S, T-Mobile Dies A Little More Inside

Parent of the Cricket cellphone service, Leap Wireless, has stated that it has plans to be the first phone company in mainland US to sell iPhones prepaid, with no contract. This will begin on the 22nd June, when Leap will begin to sell the iPhone 4S at 500 USD, and the iPhone 4 at 400 USD. This will be accompanied by a service charge of 55 USD per month. For the 55 USD, the customer will receive unlimited phone calls, texting, and data usage.

Cricket US announces pre-paid iPhone 4S & 4

The company is based in San Diego, and its official title is Leap Wireless International Inc. The service that Leap provides is a no-contract service to those households on a lower income. However the actual network is not country-wide, so in many cities the phones has to operate on the Sprint network.

Leap are not the only company to offer the iPhone with no contract, but Leap offer the lowest up front prices, with the same service costs. The unlimited nature of the service the customer receives in exchange for the service cost, is also a great selling point for customers.

T-Mobile iPhone: Where art thou?

Sadly, Cricket comes in as another small carrier to grab the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 for the US before T-Mobile. At the moment, the iPhone 4S is available on 3 of the 4 major US carriers as well as a bunch of rural carriers. Why T-Mobile, the fourth largest carrier in the US, still remains without an iPhone is perplexing.
