In one corner the LG Optimus 4X HD, in the other the Apple iPhone 4S. Two of the biggest contenders in the mobile market today without a doubt include the Apple iPhone 4S and the LG Optimus 4X HD. Both contenders have excellent ratings and come packed with solid hardware.
iPhone 4S vs LG Optimus 4X HD: too close to call
The build quality and design of the iPhone 4S is predictable as it has been used on the iPhone since 2010. Some say it has passed its best and it is time for a change, while others love it. The Optimus 4x HD on the other hand is much bolder and looks superb thanks to the outer shell design with its sheer edges which create a very imposing silhouette and feels great in the hand. Winner of round one therefore goes to the Optimus 4X HD for its refreshing looks.
Moving on to the display, the retina display on the iPhone 4S is often what other models are judged against. It has one of the clearest and sharpest of screens thanks to the screen being 3.5 inch with 960×540 pixels. The LG Optimus 4X HD also has a great looking screen with a resolution of 1280×720. Based on the sharpness of the screen, the winner in this round is the LG Optimus 4X HD thanks to its larger expanse of glass and resolution to match.
Storage-wise the iPhone 4S is superb with three options of 16,32 and 64GB but no SD slot. The LG Optimus has only one option for storage with this being that of the lowest of iPhone. It has an SD slot up to 32GB for expansion. The winner of this round is close and had the iPhone had an SD slot things it would have won by a mile. However it does just take this round.
Next up is the camera. Both boast 8-megapixel shooters with 3264×2448 pixels and 1080p HD video capture. Given that both are almost identically equipped, this one is too difficult to call and maybe a draw.
Under the hood, the iPhone 4S features a 1GHz dual core ARM Cortex-A9 processor and 512MB RAM. The LG Optimus 4X HD takes the cake with its 1.5GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 ARM processor and 1GB RAM.
Bottom line
So what it ultimately comes down to isn’t hardware but your software preference i.e. iOS 5 or Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This is a matter of personal preference. The iPhone’s iOS 5 just works and intuitive in its own way. Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is richer on features and has more potential but you should be willing to take the trouble of exploiting it otherwise iOS works out better.
