Moving toward the WWDC in June brings with it questions of whether the announcement to release the iPhone 5 will be made. Many pundits in the tech world believe the belief of such an announcement to be nonsense. Simply citing that it would be a much more marketable decision for Apple to release closer towards a fall release date, perhaps September or October. The folks over at iPhone5NewsBlog have brought up a couple of reasons why we can expect it to launch in June as well as counter-reasons as to why we can’t and should just wait for this fall. Here are 6 of the points they mentioned worth highlighting.
iPhone 5 release date: 3 reasons why a a fall release makes more sense
Small Carriers – Apple is just now releasing sales of the Apple iPhone 4S to smaller carriers, if these carriers are just now being able to sell the product, wouldn’t Apple give them ample time to establish the phone as a popular item before flipping and selling the new iPhone 5. Even when Apple opened sales to Verizon, it gave them plenty of time to seal the phone as a flagship before breaking out the 4S.
“Fall Release Theorem” – Seems silly to trust outside information about Apple’s plans, however Digitimes has posted several unnamed Asian sources – possibly component partners – who have divulged information about Apple planning to release in the fall.
Profit – For the 4S to reach full profitability, Apple needs to wait a year before releasing their next model. It simply doesn’t make sense for them to continue releasing products faster than the public are willing to purchase them.
However, against these 3 claims there are 3 for a June announcement:
Nano Sim – Apple recently motioned to get the patent for the nano SIM fast tracked, which raised questions as for why? The most obvious thought is to be prepared for the iPhone 5 release in June.
iPhone5.com – The acquiring of the domain name has thrown many experts for a loop. Similar to the nano SIM move, the only reason this seems logical is for an early release of the Apple product.
4 sales fall falling, 4S going on sale – People are buying less and less of these, could it be cause and effect? As the demand for these phones decreases basic economics states the supply must increase, causing a surplus in available phones to be purchased. What is overlooked is the fact that this pattern is followed every year, as the most recent Apple innovation falls, a new product is released on a podium. This year: the Apple iPhone 5, in June.
