AT&T: Lack Of Android 4.0 Updates Is Just Google Playing Favorites

While the blame originally landed purely on US carriers when it came to untimely or total lack thereof of Android updates for existing Android smartphones on the market, AT&T is now pushing the blame squarely on Google.

AT&T CEO blames delay in Android 4.0 updates for existing phones on Google

AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson stated that the delay in the latest Android updates (Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich at this time) for its existing line of Android smartphones was because Google released the updates to different phones on different times, and even added that it was part of a “negotiated arrangement.”

The details come via 9to5Google who add that an audience member at the Milken Global Conference last week asked Stephenson why some Android devices weren’t getting their Android updates as quick as they were told. The AT&T CEO simply states that, “So yeah it’s an issue. Google kind of determines what platform gets the newest releases and when. Often times that’s a negotiated arrangement.”

Could it really not be the fault of carriers after all? Is there a possibility that Google plays favorites with Android manufacturers and carriers? Or is AT&T just trying to shift the blame? Sound off in the comments below.
