Samsung Galaxy S3: It’s Not iPhone 5 Or HTC One X That Sammy Needs Worry About

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is now less than 24 hours away from its official debut. Arguably the most anticipated Android smartphone of 2012, if rumors hold true then it will be the king of smartphones when it launches.

Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 biggest threat not iPhone 5 or HTC One X

While the HTC One X is expected to land on AT&T shortly after (May 6th), there is no confirmation yet on whether it would be making its way to Verizon Wireless. Furthermore, with the iPhone 5 speculated to be unveiled on June 11th (WWDC 2012) and running a different mobile platform altogether (iOS), it will not pose as big of a threat as do other Android devices which compete for the same fanbase.

Motorola DROID RAZR HD: The DROID you’re looking for

If the Samsung Galaxy S3 does in fact have a direct rival, it will be the Motorola DROID RAZR HD. Going under different names across the blogosphere (Motorola Blade, Motorola DROID Fighter), it is expected to be Motorola’s new flagship device. And when you compare the rumored specs of both devices, they seem to be almost equally matched:

Motorola DROID RAZR HD vs Samsung Galaxy S3 specs (rumor)

Both boast a HD resolution display ranging from 4.7 to 4.8-inches. Both have high-end cameras (13MP on RAZR HD & 12MP for Galaxy S3) with 1080p HD video recording, both are LTE capable and come preloaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich coupled to their manufacturer UI overlays (BLUR and TouchWiz), and lastly both feature massive batteries (3,300mAh on RAZR & 3,050 on Galaxy S3).

If there is a big difference, it would be the processor. The Samsung Galaxy S3 is rumored to come equipped with a quad-core Exynos processor while the DROID RAZR HD will go with a dual-core setup. However, as we reported yesterday, a new device making its rounds on the Web after showing up in some benchmark tests is strongly believed to be the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 – and it has a dual-core setup. So this last point may not end up tipping the scales.

The Motorola DROID RAZR HD is expected to be announced in the coming weeks as well. The question is, which one will hit Verizon store shelves first.
