It has been public knowledge for sometime now that the Motorola DROID RAZR, RAZR MAXX, DROID Bionic and DROID 4 all utilize the Qualcomm MDM6600 chipset with is fully GSM capable. The catch here is that both Verizon and Motorola have disabled the GSM bands by default in the radio.

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX, RAZR, Bionic & DROID 4 capable of running on AT&T and T-Mobile

Now if you thought that would stop these 4 devices from working on AT&T or T-Mobile then guess again. Developers have successfully modified the radio to allow these DROID-branded devices to run on GSM networks like AT&T and T-Mobile. The developers have posted pictures of he devices utilizing the AT&T 3G network but haven’t been able to get it to work on T-Mobile HSPA just yet.

According to the developers, they are working hard on getting it working on T-Mobile’s HSPA (currently only working on EDGE) and also create a public release so users are free to move to purchase the top Motorola devices for use on AT&T and T-Mobile.

The Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX in particular stands out from the pack as it is the newest and also features unbeatable battery life. We’re certain many AT&T and T-Mobile users would love to get their hands on one.
