The Samsung Galaxy S3 has been hyped up to be the best Android smartphone we can expect to get our hands on this year. Now if you haven’t been following the Samsung Galaxy S3 rumor mill, then let us quickly recap what specs it is expected to be packing.
Rumored Samsung Galaxy S3 specs not unmatchable
The Samsung Galaxy S3 will purportedly run a 1.8GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 2GB RAM, 4.8-inch Super AMOLED III HD display, 8 or 12-megapixel rear camera, 2-megapixel front facing camera, LTE and come preloaded with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with the new TouchWiz UI.
Now those are some pretty spectacular specs and have kept the hype behind the Samsung Galaxy S3 going strong since late last year when they started. However is the Samsung Galaxy S3 really as ‘godly’ as it was once put up to be? Maybe not.
This year alone we’ve seen two other devices that seem to match the Samsung Galaxy S3 in many ways. And remember, we’re just in Q2 at this time. We’re talking about the officially confirmed HTC One X and the Motorola Blade / DROID RAZR HD which has leaked multiple times right down to pictures of it circulating on the Web. Let’s see how they stand up to the fabled Samsung Galaxy S3:
All three smartphones boast large HD displays ranging between 4.6 and 4.8 inches, all three pack 4G LTE antennas and quad-core or dual-core processors. It is important to note that recent tests showed that dual-core processors are as powerful if not more than some quad-core processors, plus the Galaxy S3 may lose its quad-core chip for a dual-core one in the US if it doesn’t end up being LTE compatible (unknown). Moving on, all will boast 8-megapixel or 12-megapixel shooters. The HTC for one states that the 8MP shooter on its One X is possibly the best on the market, supposedly better than that of the iPhone 4S which has been heralded for its camera. All three will also feature front-facing cameras and come pre-loaded with Android 4.0 ICS (the HTC One X has a Sense UI over it and the DROID RAZR HD doesn’t have physical buttons on the front but instead relies on the ICS on-screen keys).
Now if you’re thinking that the Samsung Galaxy S3 may still be able top its rivals because of its in-house quad-core Exynos processor which will blow everything else off the market, not so fast. Meizu today officially revealed that its latest generation Meizu Android 4.0 smartphone will take that honor and pack a Samsung Exynos quad-core processor.
If all goes as planned, we can expect the Samsung Galaxy S3 to launch in the first half of 2012, followed by its US variants rolling out sometime after in the year. Will it be able to keep the hype going around it until then? Sound off in the comments below.
