Samsung Galaxy S3 May Bend Over Backwards To Please Consumers [REPORT]

The Samsung Galaxy S3 is expected to launch in less than a month now at the Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in London. As with every next-generation Galaxy smartphone, consumers expect Samsung to pack new technology into their smartphones. This time around, word on the street is that it may be the YOUM flexible display which we got a preview of earlier this year at CES.

Samsung Galaxy S3 may be first to market with flexible AMOLED display

Now if you’re late to the party and are unclear as to what a flexible display is, it basically is a screen that can bend and wrap around objects without breaking. It is built from film-like sheets instead of glass and this allows it to not only bend and flex but also be sturdier.

Samsung for one has been constantly increasing the screen sizes of its smartphones and currently holds the title for making the largest screen for a smartphone: the 5.3-inch Samsung Galaxy Note. In our tests with the humungous ‘phablet’, while we did find it pocketable it was somewhat uncomfortable when it was in your side pockets and you sat down. However if it could slightly wrap around your legs when you sad down, not only would it be less noticeable but also more comfortable for the user.

Given that the Samsung flexible displays are only expected to go into production next month, it is unclear whether we will see it in the Samsung Galaxy S3. However if the S3 follows the same release schedule as the S2 did then it is quite possible (the Samsung Galaxy S2 was launched in February and then went on sale in May in some countries. It then arrived in the US in September only with slightly different specs and screen sizes).

We’ll keep you posted as more develops.
