With the New iPad 3 revolutionizing the tablet market once again with its whopping 2048 x 1536, 3.1 million-pixel display, now all eyes are on the iPhone 5 and what killer feature it has to bring this summer (or fall if you believe Apple will follow the delayed release schedule started by the iPhone 4S).
iPhone 5 to utilize massive Samsung OLED screens (report)
The latest report comes by way of The Korea Times who indicate that Apple will employ Samsung’s OLED screens for the new iPhone 5:
“Thanks to the increased volume, chances have been raised to ship Samsung’s OLEDs for Apple’s iPads and even iPhones” an unnamed source told The Korea Times.
Given that Apple happens to be Samsung’s biggest customer, reportedly purchasing over $7.8 billion of components in 2011 which include processors and displays, it comes as no surprise that they will continue to do business together despite the many legal battles between them.
Samsung Galaxy S3 rumors suggest similar features to iPhone 5
Simultaneously, recent reports suggest that the iPhone 5 will feature a screen size anywhere between 4.6″ and 5.0″. If this massive Retina Display will be an OLED screen, then it would be quiet identical to what the Samsung Galaxy S3 will purportedly be packing – a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED III HD screen.
As we discussed last week, both iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3 rumors seem to hint towards identical specs. To recap, both are rumored to utilize ceramic casings, quad-core processors, 12MP rear cameras, 4G LTE antennas, and now almost identical screen technologies.
It will be interesting to see how things line up in 2012.
