The HTC One X and Samsung Galaxy S3 looks set to be the flagship Android smartphones of 2012. Given that HTC has already revealed the specs of the One X, it is arguably the most powerful smartphone on the market (not in the US market but it is already on sale in other nations like Germany).
Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X
Given that HTC is rumored to launch the One X here in the US as early as April, it may also have a head start over the Samsung Galaxy S3 which even if it launches next month, will unlikely be made available in the US so quickly.
So if you’re due for an upgrade real soon and want the most powerful smartphone money can buy, should you go with the confirmed HTC One X or wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3?
Samsung Galaxy S3 specs on par with HTC One X only? (rumor)
Starting off with the Samsung Galaxy S3, rumors suggest that the Android smartphone will pack a 12-megapixel rear camera, 1.8GHz quad-core Exynos processor, 4.8-inch HD Super AMOLED III screen, NFC, and a whopping 2GB RAM with 32GB internal storage.
Now those are some killer specs if they are true and some others may also change. Starting with the Super AMOLED III screen, as awesome as that technology may sound it is important to note that some people just prefer LCD screens. Moving on, that 1.8GHz quad-core processor coupled to 2GB RAM will no doubt give the Samsung Galaxy S3 some serious speed. However there is no word on whether it will be compatible with LTE so we may see the US variant get a dual-core chip instead (possibly lessening the amount of RAM as well).
Taking that into account, the HTC One X may be on par. It boasts a 4.7-inch Gorilla Glass 720p screen, 1.5 GHz quad-core processor (will be swapped for dual-core on AT&T to be compatible with LTE), and an 8-megapixel camera. The 8MP camera however has been boasted to be better than others on the market (including the iPhone 4S). It will feature five levels of LED flash, automatic focus and recording and playback support for 1080p HD video, BSI sensor (for better low-light captures), simultaneous HD video and image recording, face and smile detection.
If there are any disadvantages to the HTC One X, it may be that it lacks an expandable slot. As for the OS, both should come with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and their individual UIs on top. So again, we could see a matter of taste here (TouchWiz vs Sense).
While they may seem almost on par with each other, what will likely throw the Galaxy S3 over the top would be if the other rumors floating around the web about it come true i.e. dual-booting launchers (stock ICS or TouchWiz), wireless charging, and the possibility that the Exynos quad-core processor is compatible with LTE and allows the US S3 models to not have to swap it.
Will you settle for a HTC One X or wait for the Samsung Galaxy S3 to be announced? Sound off in the comments below.
