Half Life fans have been waiting for the third episode for so long that they’re almost giving up. Some are asking why Valve is taking so long.
We don’t know if the studio is about to make an official announcement, but fans haven’t been put off from speculating about what’s causing the delay to Half Life 3.
It might be because Valve is stuck on the storyline. The first Half Life was all about getting out of City 17, then Half Life 2 was about destroying combine’s Portal and uncovering Borealis. The studio might be running out of ideas – it’ll have to be innovative if it wants to maintain its high standards. Any slightly dodgy ideas will just ruin everything.
The development of Source 2 might be slowing things down a bit as well. New game engines take a long time to develop, so until this is done, other projects might be sidelined.
Valve might be tied up with Steam Box; this new gaming console is set to be the flagship of the company, and as such will need a lot of attention. This might have forced Half Life 3 onto the back-burner.
We need to know, though. If we know there’s a good reason for the delay, we’ll understand, and will wait patiently.
