When Resident Evil 6 launched, fans were angered by the action-style gameplay that failed to send chills through them. The game has changed a lot since Resident Evil 4, and players have been asking Capcom to get scary again. Hopefully this will happen in Resident Evil 7.
Most players have been with the franchise since the start, and have become addicted to the terror, finding the game as hairy as Silent Hill.
Since Resident Evil 4, though, the franchise has taken a turn for the gung-ho and is now more like your average shoot ‘em up.
If Capcom doesn’t get back onto terror-firmer (see what we did there?), then the fans might start turning away. The Evil Within, from Japan’s TangoGameworks, has been talked about since its trailers were released.
The Evil Within looks like an ideal combo of horror, mystery and a few puzzles, and Capcom needs to watch out for this game, as it could steal the hearts of its once-loyal gamers.
If Capcom wants to stay afloat, it needs to return to its horrific roots this time round, or else The Evil Within could become Resident Evil 7′s worst nightmare…
