Volkswagen Phaeton EV To Be Electrified?

We believe no one has already forgotten about the Volkswagen diesel emissions scandal. But, the German automaker does not let the news to hinder the company from making things right again. In a recent announcement from Volkswagen, the company is taking a serious emphasis on future electrification with the next-gen Volkswagen Phaeton that will be fully battery powered.

There are still not much details about the car’s upcoming flagship, but Volkswagen simply assures “a pure elective drive with long-distance capability, connectivity and next-generation assistance systems as well as an emotional design.”

The Volkswagen Phaeton is said to be launched in 2020, together with the Audi E-Tron Quattro concept production version. While rumor has it that the new model is nearly ready earlier this year, the project was reportedly cancelled to cut costs.

On top of that, Volkswagen will build a new platform specifically for compact EVs called the MEB. The car will range between 155 and 311 miles, and can be obtained across the VW Group brands. What’s more, the electrification push will likely to affect other current models as well.
