Earlier this year in the U.S, Fiat-Chrysler recalled over 1.4 million cars after security researchers showcased a Jeep hack. Now, Volkswagen is having the fear too of being highly unsecured.
Volkswagen may be at high risk for hacking as the researchers found that the RFID Megamos Crypto that allows keyless access to their cars can be hacked really fast, in less than a minute. As cars begin to be equipped with a more advanced technology, so does the hackers who are always trying to find ways to hack the automotive industry.
When the researchers present their findings to Volkswagen, the company urges them to keep the discoveries from the public as they are afraid that the information will be a threat to their cars if it is leaked worldwide.
Despite having a serious problem, Volkswagen does not want to recall its vehicles but decide to just keep the news out of the public’s knowledge. It seems that Volkswagen cares more about its reputation than the safety of millions of its users.
