Toyota FCEV vs Tesla S: An Interesting Perspective

The Tesla Model S has won numerous awards this year for being one of the most reliable and well-built EV sedan around. There is not much one can hate about the Tesla Model S since it comes with the best electric range of 311 miles.

Well, the Model S’ glory is expected to only last until early next year, when Toyota launches the world’s first hydrogen car. Instead of running on electricity, the upcoming vehicle will be powered by hydrogen fuel cell, which too has a range of about 311 miles.

The tussle between the two companies then started to spark with Tesla, condemning it as something too costly, too complex and not as clean as electricity. Toyota didn’t deny the allegations made by Tesla but gave out a point which makes complete sense.

Toyota revealed that the hydrogen-powered vehicle will perform exactly like a petrol-powered car. The Japanese carmaker admitted that it is not as clean as EV but it is also not as dirty as petrol. Toyota added by bragging that it will only be water vapour coming out of the tailpipes of its upcoming vehicle.

Consumers are truly in a dilemma on which sort of technology to use. The hydrogen-powered car is still unproven and finding a refill station can be difficult. On the other hand, EV vehicles have its own setbacks like being heavy, limited range, long refuelling time and the problematic battery-electric autos.

Then again, we recommend making the jump to hydrogen. To think logically, even electricity is made by hydrogen fuel cells. Also, the sluggish progress in the EV industry makes hydrogen fuel all the more appealing. But then, be warned as the hydrogen fuel will surely come with its own set of problems.
