Sony Xperia Z2 vs Z Ultra: Flagship vs Phablet

Sony might not be the biggest name in the smartphone industry but they are always at the top when it comes to offering a high quality Android device. The latest Xperia Z2 is a perfect example of a high quality, high-end smartphone. However, can this this new device outmuscle the already proven Sony Xperia Z Ultra?

Putting both devices side-by-side, we can see that the Z Ultra is the much larger device. The ‘phablet’ has a screen size of 6.4” and it has a pixel density of 342ppi. For a screen that size, the pixel count is really impressive. Despite that fact, it isn’t as good as the 5.2” screen on the Z2. The latter is simply sublime as the screen runs at 424ppi.

Being a large smartphone can be a curse for the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. After all, larger screens require more power to operate. Not only does the Z Ultra have a smaller 3050mAh battery but it cannot last as long as the 3200mAh battery on the Z2.

In terms of power, the Z2 is equipped with a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor with Adreno 330 GPU and 3GB RAM. This is faster than the Z Ultra 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM and Adreno 330 GPU.

Even on cameras, there is no way for the 8MP rear, 2MP front shooters on the Z Ultra to compete with the whopping 20.7MP rear and 2.2MP front shooters on the Z2.

The fate is sealed. The Z2 is obviously the better smartphone than the Z Ultra. Of course, that is not to say that the latter is a bad device.
