Come next week, Toyota will be making full use of the New York Auto Show to unveil their upcoming vehicles and among them is the Scion iA. Well, car junkies don’t have to get too excited as the Scion iA is nothing more than a rebadged Mazda 2.
This was first suggested when an undisguised image of the Scion iA got leaked online and it hints on a styling that is akin to the Mazda 2. The spy shots were carefully reviewed by the lads over at TopSpeed and they have hence rendered a digital visualization of the vehicle.
If you are to check out the image, then you will definitely come to realize that the Scion iA is in fact the Mazda 2. So, what gives?
Yes, both Mazda and Toyota are rival companies but they have somehow agreed on a business deal that allows Scion to utilize the Mazda 2 for the upcoming iA model. Apparently, this cross-venture between Scion and Mazda were made to introduce the Mazda 2 here in North America.
Such a move will only benefit both Scion and Mazda. For the latter, they will get to sell the Mazda 2 indirectly since Scion is managing everything. Then there is Scion’s parent company, Toyota, which will also receive a return in investment.
When the Scion iA arrives, it will be powered by the 1.5L SkyActiv engine that has 106hp and 103lb-ft of peak torque to offer. More details are expected to get spilled at the upcoming New York Auto Show.
