There are a lot of reasons to why the Macan is Porsche finest creation ever and among them is the fact that it is a replica of the Audi Q5 that actually performs like a sports car. We got behind the wheels of both vehicles and they have a totally different feel to each other. The driver seat on the Macan is really low in height which amazed us as it feels as if we are in the cockpit of the 911. Then again, it cannot match the luxurious interior that is offered on the Evoque.
You should also note that we are driving the Diesel S Macan which makes it all the more surprising when the SUV went on idle in a smooth and rather quiet manner. The mill resting inside of the Evoque has a more strained sound but its 9-speed automatic transmission offered a smoother journey.
However, the Evoque has a small-time delay when pulling out the ponies due to it, being 2-cylinder short of the Macan. In detail, the British luxury SUV offers 187hp from its 2.2L engine while the Macan is powered by the 254hp 3L V6 engine..
In terms of handling, the Evoque have more body roll to it but it never bothered us as the steering is both precise and responsive. On the road, the Evoque is impressive but not as great as the Macan. The latter zooms at every bends, living up to how Porsche described it to be as the SUV cum sports car.
Off the road however, it is the Evoque that runs the show. It managed to take on 80% inclines, muddy bogs and steep, slippery descents easily. Heck, the Evoque feels more solid than the Macan on every front.
In terms of design, we feel that the Evoque is the perfect example of how a luxury SUV is supposed to be. However, off-roading is not for everyone which questions the Evoque’s focus when on the roads.
This is where the Macan stays ahead of competition as it exhibits class with its handling and on the road performance. No, the Macan is not something well-refined is comfortable at its best but it is certainly a beast like every other sports car. This is except for the fact that it is an SUV.
