The Lincoln MKC is the most popular SUV in the automotive industry right now, mostly thanks to its commercials. Today, we are going to put that away and will look at exactly what the MKC has got to offer.
For starters, the MKC is the first of its kind from Lincoln. Instead of being a vision of the future, Lincoln decided to draw inspirations from past SUVs. Since Lincoln is the luxury wing from Ford, it adopts the same underpinnings from the Escape.
Despite that fact, Lincoln gave the MKC some upgrades like more expressive sheetmetal, a somewhat higher beltline, and a unique roofline. This gives off a much bolder and more solid stance that reminds us of the Volvo.
Under the hood, the MKC is offered with multiple engine options and among them is the new 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine that generates 285hp and 305 ft-lbs of torque. There is no problem with the motor as it managed to satisfy us with a decent acceleration and top speed. What worries us the MKC’s handling.
While it might be responsive and great, the steering could have been better. We felt some understeer when travelling on a hilly road but it is something drivers can look past. Also, we find out that it is important to get the MKC with the continuously controlled damping suspension as the stock units are a little to soft for the rough roads.
For a luxury SUV that is built to compete with the Lexus RX and Acura RDX, the MKC is surely ahead as it returns EPA fuel consumption figures of 19L city and 26L highway.
Also, the MKC is completed with features like Active Park Assist with Park Out Assist, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, a hands-free tailgate, heated-and-cooled seats, and top-notch THX II premium audio.
