Hyundai Recall: What We Know So Far

Another recall for the automotive industry, and this time it’s not Tesla or Ford, but Hyundai. The Korean automaker is reportedly recalling a whopping figure of 304,900 Sonata sedans due to possible faulty brake pedals. The affected examples were specifically from build dates between 11th December 2009 and 30 June 2011, but luckily for them, there haven’t been any reports on accidents or injuries so far.

The affected Sonatas would have a faulty stopper pad, causing the inability for brake lights to shut off. What happens is when the defective stopper pad “deteriorates”, it allows the plunger to stay extended even when the brake pedal is released, ultimately resulting the brake lights to light up despite not applying any pedal pressure. It’s a bold move for Hyundai to recall the possible affected cars, as they eventually realized the gradual increase in warranty claims might disrupt their company’s reputation.

However, this isn’t the first time Hyundai has had their cars recalled. It seems that the 2011 Sonata model has already had its patchy phase; recalled for eight other times. So the current recall really isn’t that big of a deal for Hyundai now, does it? Well, let’s just be hopeful that there won’t be anymore recalls for them as this might ruin their reputation as a whole.
