Ford has decided that the time is up for Microsoft as the carmaker now relies on Blackberry to develop its Sync 3. In detail, future Sync 3 will be running on the Blackberry QNX. However, all is not lost for Microsoft as the tech giant will still be responsible for Sync 3’s updates.
Even though future updates are still developed by Blackberry, they will be hosted over at Microsoft’s Azure Cloud servers before being transmitted to the Sync 3 system. To add to that, it was Microsoft that allowed the Sync 3 to enjoy Wi-Fi connectivity.
Sync 3 is already in its final stages of development at the moment and it is expected to be ready for a release next year. The new infotainment system will debut on the 2016 Lincoln and Ford vehicles, and it will be replacing the MyFord Touch system entirely.
