About 3 years ago, Ford created history by launching the 1L EcoBoost 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. The special thing about this mill is that it is able to offer great power while not disregarding fuel economy.
It also explains why Ford has bagged the engine of the year award for three years in a row. This year however, the award went to BMW and this is owed to the 1.5L 3-pot hybrid unit that is equipped on the i8.
Even so, this does not mean the EcoBoost engine is weak. The engine still managed to bag second place, just 7 points shy of the 1.5L hybrid from BMW. Hence, the 1L EcoBoost is still the engine to beat in the market today.
