A total of 50,249 Chevrolet Volt from the 2011-2013 model years and 13,937 exported models have been recalled due to a suspected carbon monoxide leak caused by the internal combustion engine.
Chevrolet explained that the when drivers are running on electricity alone, the main engine will run subtly to recharge the electrical battery. Apparently, the combustion from that particular process somehow causes carbon monoxide to leak.
If drivers are exposed to high density of carbon monoxide, it can cause health problems like suffocation and such. This is not to be taken lightly as carbon monoxide is poison to human beings.
To make things worse, two injuries have been reported caused by the carbon monoxide leak. The reports have led GM to cease selling the Volt and made a recall out of it.
Of course, every owners of the affected Volt have been notified of the issue. GM is currently dealing with the supplier parts as they prepare to fix the leak and Volt owners can get the fixing for free.
