The international engine of the year award has finally concluded and all the buzz is on the hybrid and EV categories. Last year, the EV market was owned by the BMW i3 and this is due to the fact that the hatch is able to offer the best eMPG around.
Now, things are a bit different as the crown is being awarded to the Tesla Model S. Judged by the thousands of motoring journalists worldwide, every one of them agreed that there is no beating the EV motor on the Tesla Model S.
The EV engine might not offer the best eMPG but the fact that it covers the most distance ensured its victory over the i3.
Of course, it is not all loss for BMW as they managed to win the hybrid category. BMW scored gold with their 1.5L hybrid motor that is used on the i8. This cannot be helped as the motor ensured that the i8 can average 134.5mpg with 227hp to offer.
