This basically explains why the Prius is turning into a thief’s magnet over in San Francisco. The funny thing is that it is not the Prius that the thieves are after. Instead, they are only stealing the battery on the hybrid car.
It is reported that thieves only need 20 minutes to pull out the battery from the Prius. The stolen item is then sold for a cheap price.
Toyota is well aware of the security issue that is affecting the Toyota Prius and has taken the initiative to offer a security upgrade to the owners. The upgrade will see the Prius being equipped with a new temper proof bolts that can only be opened via a custom-made wrench.
