New, but still the same. 2017 Jeep Wrangler has been introduced to public, with some adjustment made to the roof. Beside the folding front windshield that will be switched by a fixed unit, the old-fashioned soft top will also be taken away. The sport bar is changed to an integrated substructure, with at least four stressed mounting points.
The sport bar, generally known as a roll bar is being taken away for several good reasons. It gives FCA the chance to get a leg up on any changes that may be present along with the NHSTA safety mandates, and allows engineers to optimize the body and aluminium for maximum torsional rigidity.
Furthermore, the design lets the engineers to eliminate the weight from the top assembly and reduce the need for lower-body structural back-ups, that helps with fuel saving and provides the vehicle a lower centre of gravity.
Apparently, Jeep Wrangler users do not feel that the windshield is useful. Many of them do not fully utilized it, adding to the fact that the windshield is no more than an accessory to the car. So, it seems that this new model does not really get the attention it is supposed to get from Jeep hard-core fans.
