As great as the existing Honda CR-Z may be, it is unfortunate to see the hybrid coupe failing to achieve great sales figures on a global scale. Some blame it on the poor 130hp hybrid powertrain that is too weak for a sporty car while there are others that blames it on the price.
Well, the blame game won’t matter anymore as a new-breed of CR-Z is now in the works. Instead of being an independent hybrid coupe, an industry insider revealed that Honda is looking to turn the CR-Z into a coupe version of the Civic Type-R.
If so, then we may see the CR-Z sharing a lot of similarities with the recently launched sports hatch, all while still being a hybrid coupe. The insider claims that the successor is due to arrive in 2017 and it will be known as the Honda Civic CR-Z.
In a way, this reminds us a lot of the Civic CR-X. Of course back then, the CR-X recorded much better sales than the CR-Z and such a move can only benefit the future Civic CR-Z.
Of course, we don’t expect the CR-Z to come with the 2L, 310hp engine like those on the Civic Type-R but instead, a similar engine capacity with 200hp to offer.
