Volkswagen has already promised to give the Golf R a facelift and the vehicle is due to arrive next year. Unlike most other facelift before this, the upcoming Golf R is teased to come with many design changes.
This was hinted yesterday when Volkswagen revealed that the Golf R Facelift will be like the Golf Concept that was unveiled back at the last Beijing Auto Show. This means that VW intends to restore the spirit of the old 1989 Rally Golf in the future Golf R Facelift.
If it is to happen like how we think it is, then the Golf R Facelift will no doubt come with a yellow paint job and silver for its interior. Of course, the old design language will be integrated with modern technology.
As such, it is safe to assume that the Golf R Facelift will be built on the Haldex 5 platform while being driven on the AWD system. We can expect the sports hatch to get towed by a 2.3L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission when released.
