Volkswagen will be integrating the design features of the legendary 1989 Golf Rally with the future Golf R Facelift that is due to arrive at the end of this year.
This was confirmed when the German carmaker announced that the upcoming Golf R Facelift will be built based on the Golf steampunk concept that was unveiled at the last Beijing Auto Show.
This means that when the Golf R Facelift gets released, it will be wearing a yellow paintjob with silver for its interior. Of course, the structure of the vehicle will still be based on the existing Golf and the hatchback is going to come with the latest driving technologies intact.
While VW has made no reveals on this, we can expect the Golf R Facelift to be built on the Haldex 5 platform with the AWD system. The Golf R Facelift is also going to run on a 2.3L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission.
