2016 VW Golf R Facelift Going Back In Time

The latest Golf R from Volkswagen is undoubtedly one of the best hatchbacks in the world. Soon, the car will be getting refreshed with a facelift model and it is due to arrive in 2016.

Unlike most other facelift, VW intends to incorporate the design of the past with the future Golf R. In detail, the Golf R has got its design inspired by the 1989 Rally Golf. Meanwhile, the vehicle will run on the Haldex 5 AWD system.

Under the hood, there lies the 2.2L turbocharged engine and it is mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. This will enable the Golf R facelift to develop 292hp, hence, enjoying acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 3.9 seconds.

All in all, there is going to be some big changes on the Golf R facelift and it is only for the better of the car. Perhaps, this is VW’s answer to the growing threat showed by the upcoming Ford Focus RS.
